Hey, travel besties!

Traveling is a gateway to new experiences and connections, transcending beyond powdery white sand and azure beaches. One intriguing aspect of modern travel is the rise of the "Passport Brothers".  For those not acquainted with this trend, Passport Brothers (Passport Bros) refer to American men who venture to foreign nations to explore the international dating scene and seek romantic relationships abroad.

Some proponents of this movement believe that dating foreign women offers a higher chance of finding a partner with “traditional” values – something they claim is missing from Western society. When asked why looking for wives overseas is appealing, the Passport Bros resoundingly respond that they find the attitudes of Western women to be unfavorable.

Additionally, they think women of color are their least preferred group to pursue, primarily due to what they perceive as their negative attitude. Furthermore, they express that their preference is evident as women of color are seen as less desired, less likely to be married, and less likely to be remarried.

The Passport Brothers strongly feel that Western women often adopt a collective mindset where everything is perceived as the man's fault, and he is expected to take responsibility and improve. Passport Bros think “modern women” are designed to be selfish and are only interested in their own survival and they are not getting into relationships with the mindset of starting families and being mothers.

They advance their cause even further by insisting modern women are only about sponsorship because they are incapable of loving a man for who he is but only for what he can provide. Ultimately, they think Western women who say Passport Bros are being used by overseas women to secure Green Cards and to gain financial support for their families are mere hypocrites because it’s essentially the same thing that modern, Western women do when they reject men who they think do not earn enough.

As far as Passport Bros see it, gaining a submissive, traditional wife is worth it. In their view, attitude plays a significant role in relationships; it can make a big difference and has a powerful impact on one's direction. To them, attitude is everything. They express that they perceive Western women as combative, difficult, exhausting, and disagreeable. Some of them theorize that the need for Western women to always be right might be a coping mechanism projected onto others. However, ultimately, the bottom line is that these Passport Bros feel that they can certainly do without all the negative energy and drama. The effect? They say they are going where they feel appreciated.

As the Passport Bros gain mounting visibility and popularity, they also face growing criticism. Opponents (primarily Western women) claim that this movement is only attractive to men who are terrible and who don’t want to stop being terrible. Women of color feel the cause of their perceived bad attitude is primarily due to them having no choice but to be the stereotypical strong, black women due to the absence of men in the home.

Furthermore, societal pressures force them to adopt both parental roles due to absent fathers who don't participate in raising their children or providing financial support leading to them expressing more masculine energy. Additionally, women being forced to fend for themselves make them hostile towards men because how can a woman respect a man who is not "manning"?  Men on the other hand feel that women are simply hurt by the values that women make up for themselves and it is evidenced by the fact that 70% – 80% of divorce is filed by women.

Controversially, Western women argue that economic factors and the allure of temporary elevated status in countries with lower currency values serve as motivators for some men's international pursuits. They advance the notion that the availability of affordable air travel, a surge in tourism, and the rise of social media and dating apps have opened up new avenues for international romance. Consequently, black men, who were once constrained by geographical limitations, now have the chance to explore opportunities similar to what white men have enjoyed for a considerable time. Not only have they emerged to the scene late, but their noise in the marketplace is also driven more by clout chasing than genuine exploration.

Western women opine that a central point of contention surrounding Passport Brothers is the perception that overseas women are naturally submissive, a trait that Western men supposedly seek. However, critics argue that such a portrayal is misleading and that these women may not necessarily desire to be submissive but may be conditioned to act that way by their cultures. Additionally, language and cultural barriers can present challenges in international relationships. Western women argue that these barriers may create the appearance of submission among overseas women, stemming from their limited ability to communicate effectively in English.

Western women assert that they remain indifferent to the endeavors of these passport brothers seeking romantic partners abroad. Their perspective stems from the belief that these men have already caused distress and turmoil in the lives of women within their home countries. Consequently, they view the Passport brothers as unscrupulous individuals, unworthy of consideration, who are merely extending their harmful ways to unsuspecting victims in foreign lands. To these women, the best course of action is for the passport brothers to continue their journey elsewhere, and their sentiment is a resounding "Git. Be gone."

The prospect of a mass exodus of these Passport Bros appears to exacerbate the already open wounds, and what's more, it brings to light some intriguing insights shared by the very men who are actively investing in their passports and venturing into the international dating arena:

As a black man in the West, things are pretty bad. I tend to only interact with Asian or African women when I travel and hope to marry this year. Passport bros are winning.

Dating American women is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Caring for your husband and cleaning your house is oppressive, but somehow assumption of paternity laws, child support, and alimony aren’t.

I love my Asian wife. She takes care of me. Starts my car before work, has a cup of coffee ready for me before work, and lays out my clothes for the day. Life's good.

In conclusion, the Passport Brothers phenomenon continues to stir diverse emotions and perspectives among individuals. The Bros firmly believe that international dating offers an avenue for authentic connections and enriching cultural exchanges. Conversely, there are valid concerns raised about the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes and exploitative behaviors.

Despite the ongoing debate, the Passport Bros themselves remain unfazed, with a resounding message for all: Embrace the world, seize the opportunity, and go get your passports, bros!

Until our next adventure,

XOXO

Your travel bestie,
Thera Anastasia
